Nauta Hogar: evolution and outlook#
In 2017, ETECSA added home internet access to its offers. But with major limits on who could get it, by the beginning of this year Nauta Hogar had reached barely 5% of all homes in Cuba and 7% of homes with landlines.
With 189,700 fixed broadband connections, this access option is far behind mobile data, which has more than 2.3 million active users .
For 2021, Cuba’s only telecommunications company set a goal of reaching 239,000 Nauta Hogar connections, which would mean installing 50,000 new services.
Only customers who have a landline and live in areas with availability can join the network.
The company’s packages range from 30 hours per month to 120 hours. Depending on the contracted speed, costs range from 250 to 1,375 Cuban pesos.
What’s new with Nauta Hogar#

In December of the previous year, ETECSA announced improvements for Nauta Hogar, including more connection time, higher upload speeds, and lower prices.
- For the 1 Mbps offers, upload speed doubled to 512 Kbps, and the 10-hour bonus applied during the pandemic became permanent.
- For the 2 and 3 Mbps offers, upload speeds also doubled, to 512 and 1,024 Kbps respectively, and connection time increased to 60 hours.
- For the 4 Mbps offers, upload speed also doubled to 1 Mbps, and the number of hours tripled to 120.
- The browsing cost per hour after the contracted package runs out was restored after being reduced during the pandemic. The current value is 12.50 CUP.

At the end of March 2021, the state company launched two new offers for private-sector workers licensed as “computer equipment programmers”.
- Flat-rate service with monthly fees between 1,250 CUP and 24,125 CUP, depending on the contracted speed, with no time restrictions.
- Postpaid mode with 240 and 480 hours of connection per month, for 2,000 and 3,500 CUP respectively, and speeds of 2 / 1 Mbps.

ETECSA also announced that by the end of the year Nauta Hogar would work through wireless access on the 4G mobile network, opening possibilities for people who do not have a landline at home. This is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated changes.
